Many people find themselves becoming more and more adventurous on their getaways. While you might start with every intention of lounging by the pool with the stack of unread books you’ve transferred from your nightstand, truth is the economy is improving and many travelers are choosing to to upgrade their vacation to include fun, new excursions specific to their destination.
According to a travel trend expert, Daniel Levine, some things we can expect to see in 2014 include:
- Uncharted Territory - This involves going where no tourist has gone before (aka venturing into uncharted territory). One example includes using military grade balloons to send tourists into low orbit or approximately 19 miles above the earth. At the opposite end are high-tech submersible vehicle tours that can take travelers into the deepest recesses of the ocean.
- Food Foraging - Many have heard of the sustainable food trend, and now some areas provide local guided walks for gathering edible foods (berries, mushrooms, etc) and later teach you to prepare them in the kitchen. And who knows, this may even help you cut dining expenses from the rest of your vacation!
- Other trends include visiting various micro-breweries that are popping up in cities, Amsterdam-esque activities such as cannabis cafes now that marijuana is becoming legalized in certain states, or staying in designer-brand luxury hotels (ever dreamt of staying in a Missoni hotel in Edinburgh or a Dior suite at the St. Regis in New York?).
These types of events will add a whole other element of fun (and bragging rights) to your trip.
